PRESIDENT PAUL LOH'S MESSAGE
ON 11TH FEBRUARY 2008
Greetings! Fellow Georgians.
Gong
Xi Fa Chai to an auspicious Year of the Rat 2008. Prosperity, Good Health and Longevity to all Georgians. Our
2007/2008 OGA Management Committee had a busy and
challenging year. We had a successful 43rd Annual Reunion
Dinner on 31st March 2007, well-attended by Georgians and
guests from fellow La Sallian Associations(72 tables) and
where we raised RM45,000 in conjunction with the SGI Board
of Governors for our Alma Mater. We were fortunate to have
Dato’ Ong Chin Choon (Class ’63) as Board Chairman to lead
the fundraising.
We
must also thank Dato’ Ong for initiating the “Sons of St.
Georges” book project, a directory of Old Georgians. The
fund raised from this will top-up the Board coffers. So, Old
Georgians respond to your duty’s sweet call by supporting
this noble cause and leave your mark in the directory for
reference by future generations of young Georgians and a
source to network among Georgians.
You
will note in the following pages the list of activities and
events are participated and held by OGA Taiping. I wish to
highlight to you the generous donations of Old Georgians to
our alma mater, Mr Lee Seng Chuan (Class ’61) from Lee
Foundation, Mr Gan Chee Wai, Classmates of 1977 and
Classmates of other years at their reunion dinners. Their
valued contributions can be seen from the upgraded
facilities in SGI Primary and Secondary. As we Old Georgians
were imbued with true La Sallian spirit during our school
days, OGA Taiping had also assisted in fundraising for our
fellow La Sallian and sister Convent schools. In June 2007,
OGA Taiping had taken on a challenging project to assist an
adventurous young Old Georgian Mr Law Tzuo Hann (Class 2001)
to raise funds for our Alma Mater and 2 other charities in
conjunction with his solo cycling nearly round the world
from Los Angeles (where he left on 28th May 2007) to Taiping
(expected to arrive on 8th March 2008). His adventure is
highlighted in this newsletter. We are requesting Old
Georgians to support this deserving cause of an admirable
Old Georgian by assisting in raising funds and welcoming him
back to Taiping. I shall be joining him on 6th march 2008 at
Malaysia-Thai border cycling during part of the journey
home.
Once
again I call on fellow Georgians to support our Association
to enroll new members into our Association. Our present
membership stands at 297.
Your
Serving President,
Paul
Loh Eng Wah
